rose colored cynicism

{September 10, 2007}   Welcome Back Kids

So I almost forgot that once upon a time I used to be a blogger. I would stay up late at night commenting on the political world that I fought so hard to be a part thinking that maybe just maybe my opinion would matter. That someone out there in cyberspace would give a damn.

Well as you can see from my last post I haven’t really stuck to the blogger life really well. So to quickly catch ya’ll back up to speed. (in less than 100 words..)

I no longer live in Montana. I graduated in May earning my degrees in Philosophy and Political Science. Applied for a job in Chicago and wound up in St. Louis. I have lived here for about two weeks and I don’t like it yet. It has the worst sprawl that I have experienced and people smoke everywhere. I mean everywhere! Went to the laundromat yesterday and it doesn’t matter because my clothes smell like smoke. But I have to stay here for a year so I guess we will see what happens…. sigh

Anyway that is the very brief catch up and to ward off late night boredom (since I have no friends) I plan on blogging again. But this time it will be more fun, more random and more well Sheena-esque.

Peace

And it starts again..

After a BRUTAL semester (which I somehow managed to survive while maintaining my dignity) and a long needed vacation, my life is returning to normal. Normal meaning that I am in summer school, working several jobs, running a campaign, trying to enjoy what will most likely be my last summer in Montana and trying to update my blog more. Here it goes!

Some random thoughts

1. What the hell is Hillary Clinton thinking???? After returning from Paris and playing catch up on my favorite reads I find on politics1.com that Conservative media mogul and Fox News Channel owner Rupert Murdoch is hosting a fundraiser for the reelection of US Senator Hillary Clinton (D-NY).. WTF??

2. The West Wing was one of the best shows ever made, and NBC is retarded. Although I am slightly hopeful for the new show they are doing with Bradley Whitford.

3. I need to take more vacations.

Peace

{April 17, 2006}   Senate Debate Tonight

In about an hour and a half from now the three main Democratic Candidates for U.S. Senate will be debating in Bozeman. (I tried contacting the other two but did not get a response). Anyway the answers will be posted here later tonight (sometime before I go to bed).

See you soon!

{March 26, 2006}   I am pissed…

I am doing homework right now and listening to the radio. An ad just came on that has my blood boiling. It seems that Girls Gone Wild is going to be filming in Bozeman at Mixers on the 28th. Now I am all for personal choices for women, and showing off a little sexuality is fine, but come on!! Girls Gone Wild is terrible, they encourage girls to do things that they would never normally do and then film it. More than that the producers get a lot of these girls wasted before hand, and get them to take of their shirts (just to be on tv).

I just can't believe that even today women are treated as objects, and some of these girls actually allow it. I am aware that while I am sitting here fuming about this there are girls who are excited. Maybe they won't be when they have a job interview, and the employer recognizes them from g-rated porn.

The worst part is that I have some guy friends who are going to want to go to. It will be cheaper than a strip club. Ick…..

{March 24, 2006}   So far..no better luck

I know, I am the WORST poster ever, but trust me, after this weekend things should begin to fall back into place and I will have stuff that will blow your minds! (perhaps).

A quick note, I was almost sure that Rehberg was going to challenge Burns (anyone who saw the Republican entry in Butte’s parade would have thought the same) but he is staying put it seems. He sure did wait till the last minute to file though.

Better for us though, now we will have a Democratic Senator (either John or Jon). To be frank, I really don’t care as long as we get Burns the hell out of there.

Yes it is Women's Day today (and thanks to Wulfgar who wrote a great post about it), but women still have so much work to do. The Supreme Court is down to one woman after the Alito disaster, and now South Dakota is trying to fuck everyhting up in terms of choice.

Women are still in fact second class citizens in this country, and yet we are also ignored. Women's representation in Congress is absolutley laughable. At at the state wide level it is not any better. In Gallatin County we currently do not have any women in the legislature, no women on the County Commission, and only one woman on the city commission. This has to change. That is why I am going to use this time to place my endorsements on some key races in the area, and yes they are all women!

Candidates for the Legislature:

Franke Wilmer- HD 64- Franke is one of my professors and she is absolutley fabulous.

Tracy Velazquez- HD 66- One of my mentors, I worked on her house race and helped her with a protest on Social Security Privatization. Plus she made national news with her proposal to give our parking garage money to Katrina victims stirring up a huge debate on pork issues.

J.P. Pomnichowski- HD 63- I just met J.P., but she is very intelligent, funny, and articulate. She will make a great representative.

County Commission

Lynea Seher- I am obviously biased here because she is Ryan's mom, but I still am very impressed by her. She is a political outsider, which will bring a breath of fresh air to the commission which needs to be shaken up a bit.

So there you have it, those are my endorsements on some key races around the county. Hopefully Gallatin County will soon be on the forefront on women representation.

{February 23, 2006}   And So It Goes…..

For those of my few past readers at Soutwest Democrat, you may be sad to know that it is dead. This happened for a couple of reasons. 1. Blogger sucked!! 2. I didn’t enjoy writing about local stuff especially since so many other great blogs cover it so well.

So I am starting anew. I am still the same bleeding heart liberal Sheena, but now I am going to write about the things that I am truly passionate about. I am going to try to bring a different point of view to the Montana Blogosphere and leave the local stuff to Matt at Left. I am leaving the angry Bozeman stuff (for the most part- unless I am truly pissed) to Wulfgar, and so on. I am not doing this because I believe the topics are boring or insignificant. On the contrary, I am fascinated. I am just no good writing about them. I was missing passion at South West, so now I am starting over.

So what is this new blog going to be like? Well hopefully it will better represent my key issues. Namely foreign policy, activism, human rights, and feminism.

Who knows if it will be better, but hey its worth a shot right?

Hope you will be back soon!
